What is the ‘Our Story’ Reading List
The search has begun for eight books that together paint a picture of the Australian people and the land that we live in. An independent panel of readers has decided on the shortlist of 6 titles for each state and territory, choosing from a selection put forward by publishers and libraries. The shortlist is a selection of 6 titles that have been chosen by reading experts who have selected them against criteria of what it means to live in, be from, that particular state or territory.

The general public can vote online at the ABC Arts gateway or visit their local library or bookstore and fill out a voting slip. Voting opens on the 1st November 2011 and closes on the 6th January 2012. The 8 winning titles will be announced on the 14 February 2014 at the official launch of the National Year of Reading.

Contact Zones shortlisted for 2011 chief minister's northern territory history book award
(Posted: May 2011)
Matthew Stephen's book Contact Zones has been shortlisted for this year's Chief Minister's Northern Territory History Book Award. The award is presented annually to the author of a book on an aspect of northern Territory History published in the previous calendar year under the auspices of the Northern Territory Library.
Contact Zones traces the extraordinary journey taken by the Northern Territory’s non-White sportsmen and women from sporting exclusion and segregation to integration and liberation. In the Territory sport is hotly contested social and political terrain, a form of public theatre where issues of race and identity continually collide.
Contact Zones was one of three finalists:

Mickey Dewar's Darwin - No Place Like Home won the award, which was presented at a ceremony held at Parliament House on 12 May 2011.

LAUNCH OF CATALOG CELEBRATING 25 YEARS OF THE Telstra national aboriginal and torres strait islander art award

Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award: celebrating 25 years is the latest joint CDU Press publication with the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT). The full colour art catalog was launched on 1 March 2011 at the Gallery of Indigenous Art, MAGNT.
This publication formally acknowledges the extensive body of artwork produced over the duration of the award. It celebrates the creativity, ingenuity and application of Australia’s Indigenous artists by documenting the artistic achievements of a selection of significant artists, past and present, whose work has been exhibited in the award over its twenty-five year history. Many of these artists, through their art, continue to challenge, innovate and reinvigorate notions of what constitutes Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art today.
Also featured are each year’s major prize-winning work and the posters produced by the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory to promote and celebrate each award.
